BIOGRAPHY

ADAM WHITMORE

Freelance choral conductor, singer and video editor, currently teaching in the Music department of Ampleforth College, Yorkshire.

Having finished my degree in Modern Languages at Durham University, I am currently a teaching assistant in the Music Department of Ampleforth College in North Yorkshire, working with the young musicians and boarding houses. Alongside this, I have been running my own freelance choir, the Phoenix Consort, for the last five years. With this group, I have accrued international awards for consort directing from the European Tolosa Choral Contest. The ensemble now regularly records albums for the Convivium Records label of contemporary composers from the UK and abroad. I am fortunate to have worked with some of the finest young singers in the country, and hope the success of the ensemble will continue in the coming years.

I also frequently perform as a tenor soloist for choral societies and cathedrals, having sung the solos for Handel’s Messiah and Judas Maccabeus, J.S. Bach’s St. John Passion and Haydn’s Creation, as well as performances of English song and lieder. My other interests surround languages and coffee. Having lived in Estonia for a period of time during his degree, I entered the Estonian National Barista Competition, at which I placed rather badly, but had a nice time. I hope that one day I will have the means to open my own cafe.
